By participating in our “Monkey Watches,” you minimize the environmental impact of your vacation. Additionally, you contribute to the conservation and protection of an endangered species!
At Ecokerd, we are also a conservation project dedicated to Barbary macaques (Macaca sylvanus)! We are actively contributing to this cause on multiple fronts…
By providing assistance to researchers and NGOs, we actively participate in scientific research and conservation projects. We offer our expertise and services to support them, sometimes providing them with valuable data.
We also provide a sustainable and affordable base for their field studies in the High Atlas, a region known for its challenging accessibility. Despite the local hospitality, shelters and accommodations can be difficult to find and may not always be affordable!
We support the communities of the Central High Atlas, particularly in resolving conflicts with the Barbary macaques. We strive to highlight alternatives and sustainable solutions.
We also provide advice and support for their sustainable tourism initiatives. We are here to assist villagers in implementing innovative and sustainable projects.
We raise awareness about the plight of Barbary macaques. You may occasionally see us participating in or giving lectures, and we sometimes contribute to documentaries about these fascinating primates.
We strive to gain a better understanding of Barbary macaques and their environment, particularly regarding the populations in the High Atlas, which are still very poorly understood! Our goal is to create the conditions necessary for the recovery of their population.
